Film Audience Research...

I created a questionnaire to find out the types of characters our target audience could relate to
and asked 40 children aged 12-16 from a local high school to fill it in.

Q. Would you prefer the focus on characters in a new high school TV series to be on males, females or both?
A. 90% of the sample said they would prefer a mixed gender group of characters to show more of a range.

Q. Do you prefer to watch "superficial" American high school dramas such as Glee or "gritty" British high school dramas for example Waterloo Road?
A. The majority of the sample said they would like to see a British equivalent of shows like 90210 and Glee but with an original twist.

Q. Do you find individual, stereotyped characters like 'popular' characters and 'geeks' easier to relate to than groups of similar characters?
A. 75% stated they would rather see stereotypes as they are more accessible and find it more entertaining to see the conflict between groups as it's a more representative, if a little exaggerated, version of high school life.

From these findings I have decided to create a high school drama using a group of mixed gender stereotypes that are somehow linked in a style similar to American TV shows but based in Britain.
